Unlike ballet, dance, or gymnastics, where learning occurs in a group lesson format most of the time, figure skating is mastered through private lessons. So….if your child is really interested in mastering figure skating, you have taken your first step, contacting a coach. In choosing me as your primary private lesson coach the current cost of a private lesson from Darlyss is $11.00 for ten minutes.

Private Lessons for basic skills and junior club skaters normally held once or twice a week with your skater getting one lesson per session. An early morning session might also be available. If you want your skater to have more than one lesson per session, you need to make arrangements before skating begins. I will make a schedule and send to you weekly once the arena schedule is published. I request that any time you know ahead of time that your skater will not be at skating to let me know in advance before I make up the schedule. There might be open times during the schedule if you choose to add a lesson during that particular schedule, this is based on first come basis. If you want to be permanently on an additional lesson list, let me know. Remember, very little progress will occur if a skater skips practices and lessons or does not use ice time to their full advantage. Make a commitment to a skating schedule and stick to it. Your skater should try to skate the entire sessions of private lesson time.

When your skater reaches the senior level of skating, skating senior sessions are only private lessons. I will make it clear what morning sessions I will do at the beginning of the year, and if it changes I notify via text or e-mail before the week begins. A senior skater will be booked for one lesson each morning session. Rare occasions I might spend longer time with your skater when beginning a new jump, starting a program so lesson time will be charged according to the time spent. i.e.: If I spend 15 minutes you will see a charge for 1.5 lessons. At the beginning of the season we might be fortunate enough to get evening ice for seniors, each skater will receive one lesson in each evening session. Be mindful that very little progress will occur if a skater skips practices and lessons or does not use ice time to their full advantage. Make a commitment to a skating schedule and stick to it. If your skater is competing a solo, artistic, compulsory more than one lesson per week is required. Please remember...just because your private lesson coach is not there during a session, does not mean a skater does not still need to practice. Please respect all coaches when you are at practice.

All private Lessons must be cancelled in advance ( 24 hours ) to avoid being charged. Phone calls or texts between the hours 8:30 am and 8:30 pm. Lesson Fees are collected by the International Falls Figure Skating Club Lessons are paid in advance. Lesson cards are available in 5 lesson or 10 lesson increments.
All skaters will be booked for a lesson each session. It is your responsibility to notify me if you want to limit the number of lessons per month. Please remember if your skater is skating two events at any competition, your skater needs to take two lessons per week. If they choose to test, or do additional events, lessons need to be as required. Sometimes closer to test days or competitions, lessons should be doubled up. It is your responsibility to inform me your skater will be absent 24 hours in advance to avoid a lesson charge.
TimeTree App for lesson schedule: New in 2022-2023   Allows a parent to also input on calendar dates you know your skater will be absent in advance BEFORE I make up the schedule. You can also put on your skaters device so they know when each lesson is. I will input lessons as soon as I get the arena schedule... there might show open slots...you can fill your skater into these slots. I will assign each skater a color (Check out MEMO...they are listed) so it is easier for me to read. Please do not adapt my original lesson plan other than taking an open time before contacting me via email.
Team Teaching - Working with more than one coach may prove effective when a skater has advanced in the sport.
My Definition of the "Primary Coach" and responsibilites is as follows: The primary coach makes all the decisions for the skaters test readiness, and would be solely responsible for music selection(with feedback from the skater) and be reponsible for the choreography of routines.
My definition of the secondary coach is as follows:is The secondary coach will focus solely on jumps, spins, and moves in the field. As secondary coach, I would not assist with any choreography of any routines for tests or competitions.

Please inform me if your skater is taking lessons from any other coach and if you want me as a primary or secondary coach. The way team teaching can be successful and open communication between the coaches, skaters, and parents.

International Falls Figure Skating Club makes it easier to commit your skater into the lifestyle of a “serious recreational skater.” Your child will master many wonderful skating skills, have opportunities to take part in recreational figure skating competitions, perform in shows, and take national skating tests.
